Efficacy of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall as a feed additive in the nutrition of Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings
Synopsis
Oreochromis niloticus is a highly adaptable organism; however, its breeding faces constant challenges, such as nutritional limitations that affect growth. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as an additive on the development of tilapia fry. A 70-week experimental trial was conducted. Three treatments were used: control (T0) and additive doses (T1 = 5 % and T2 = 10 %), evaluating biometric, histological, and biochemical variables. The results showed that the inclusion of the additive promoted improvements in certain performance indicators, such as the weight-to-length ratio. Changes in cell wall morphometry were recorded. No statistically significant differences were found when comparing treatments T1 and T2 (≥0.05); However, both were statistically significant compared to T0 (<0.05), demonstrating that the addition of the S. cerevisiae cell wall-based additive improves productivity in tilapia farming.
